2021 Audition Materials

Auditions will be submitted by video. Please record yourself performing the materials required for your instrument. Read carefully the audition instructions below and record a video with the required audition components.

The first step to audition is registration. To register, click HERE.

When you are ready to submit your video, click HERE for instructions on submission.

Drummers, please scroll to the bottom of the page for your instructions.

Instructions for all except drummers:

Scales: Play one major scale and one minor scale of your choice. Scales must be at least 2 octaves and played at a minimum of 85bpm in 8th notes.

Jazz Standards: You will be asked to play a total of TWO jazz standards out of the FOUR that are provided. You may pick any TWO that you wish to perform. You must play the head (melody) followed by at least ONE solo chorus with the backing tracks provided. If you are a rhythm section player (guitar, piano, bass) you must play the head, play at least ONE solo chorus and play at least ONE comping/walking bassline chorus.

Additional material: Students may submit additional recordings that demonstrate expertise in jazz performance. These recordings may be of live or studio performances.

Preparing the audition video: Do not edit the individual performances but feel free to use "takes" that demonstrate your best work. Make sure that the camera is 8 to 12 feet from you and that the balance between your instrument and the play-along track/metronome is appropriate. When performing your scales use a metronome and use the play along track when performing your jazz standards. Please state your NAME at the beginning of your video audition. You may include both components (scales and standards) of the audition in the same video/file—please try to keep dead space to a minimum to keep files sizes smaller.

If you have any questions contact Robert at robert@digjazz.com or 479-225-2306.
